Missions

Foreign
The Southgate church is mission minded. We have worked very
closely with the church in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in helping them construct a
church building, teaching in Vacation Bible Schools and supporting a feeding
program for children in the surrounding area. We
are currently the sponsoring
church for a ministry called Lifelighters. Led by Roger Sidwell,
this group travels all over the Caribbean building houses and church buildings
for those in need. Many lives have been touched by this ministry. The
Southgate church has been involved in the work in the Caribbean since 1987. Over
70 of Southgate's members have taken part in various missions projects in
Jamaica.
Over the past 10 years, the Southgate church has also had
over 80 people travel to Strawberry Point Christian Camp at Ice Lake
on the Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. Mission Lazarus" in
Choluteca, HondurasA team travels to Canada
every June to prepare the camp for the Canadian youngsters who will attend and
hear about God.
The Southgate church supports World Christian Broadcasting
in Nashville, Tennessee and the Baldwin Church of Christ in their
world wide ministries.
Numerous Southgate members have worked for the Lord in
Russia, Guatemala, China, Belize, Czechoslovakia, Ghana, Guyana, Poland,
Scotland, Honduras, France and Hungary on a short term basis.

Stateside
The Southgate church is also very concerned about mission
efforts within our own country and in our own town. Currently, the Southgate
church is working very closely with Midwestern Children's Home just north
of Cincinnati. Along with a monthly support check, Southgate has a Christmas
party each December where Southgate members purchase gifts for those children
and their homes.
The So
uthgate church also provides a
Community
Thanksgiving Dinner on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The target
group for this dinner is the senior citizen population of our community. The
church delivers to 8 senior citizen complexes, 2 developmentally handicapped
facilities and 2 nursing homes, as well as feeding several more at the church
building. Over 100 volunteers prepare and deliver over 700 meals
annually.
The
Lifelighters Ministry at the Southgate church has also
been very active in local construction efforts for several members of our
community and been involved in several projects stateside. Someone suggested
that our motto should be "Have Hammer, Will Travel!"
